5 Tips to Help You Take Great Photos For Instagram

Tips for Instagram Photos

We love using Instagram for our business and for our clients’ businesses because of the clean interface, and of course, the gorgeous pictures! Instagram presents an amazing opportunity to give your potential customers a glimpse into your business that they might not normally get.

From new product sneak peeks, to candid behind-the-scenes snapshots, great photos can really help build connection and trust with your audience. If you’re not a professional photographer, how can you still make this platform work for you?

Here are our top 5 tips to help you take amazing photos for Instagram!

1.Use a good camera or a newer iPhone

Photos must be crisp and clear, so that means you need to start with good equipment. If you don’t have a high quality camera, try one of the newer iPhones. They have good built in cameras and some great editing features too. You might want to invest in an inexpensive tripod too if you don’t have a steady hand.

2. Use natural light

Whenever possible, take photos in natural daylight. Lighting is so important to getting a good quality photo. If you are indoors, try to have lighting from various angles to avoid shadows and make sure you edit photos to compensate for any colour casts. Indoor lighting can often make photos look too warm.

3. Aim for good composition

Have you ever heard of the rule of thirds when it comes to photography? The idea is to divide your screen into three vertically and horizontally. The focus of the photo should fall on one of the dividers, rather than just be centered in the frame. This makes the image more pleasing to the eye.

4. Try a close up

Rather than trying to fit everything into one photo, take several individual photos. This gives you an opportunity to really showcase a product, location, or person! Experiment with different angles and distances until you snap a photo you love.

5. Keep your style consistent

If possible, try to edit your photos in a consistent way so they appear as a coherent collection when someone visits your account. Keep photos clear and bright and within your brand colour palette if possible.

Good photography can make such a difference in how appealing your Instagram account is to your followers! It takes some practice, but setting aside a day each month or quarter to snap a collection photos will make your social media strategy a lot easier in the long run!
